My great great grandmother was a Buchanan. Sarah M. Buchanan married William Denham Elliott. I would like to continue to trace her history.

Hi, just wondering if this is still active. I'm working on my Buchanan ancestors. I'm stuck at Hugh Buchanan, born 1792 in Ráth Mealtain, Co Donegal, Ireland. I've found unsourced information on ancestry family trees that links him to the more well known/well documented George Buchanan of Blairlusk (Scotland, 1648) (of which there already is a wikitree) but no sources for the intervening generations. Not sure how to add him to the brick walls? Or how to add a category for Co Donegal?

My GG Grandfather was Andrew Buchanan, of Learmore, Castlederg, and later Binnawooda Townland in the western part of County Tyrone, Ireland.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Buchanan-183 He married Jane McNeilands and had 7 sons and a daughter. (Robert, Charles, James, Andrew, John, Samuel, Jane.) In 1847 they traveled to Canada in a wooden sailing ship. After 10 days at sea, the ship was damaged in a severe storm and had to return for repairs. Their second attempt to reach Canada was successful, but there was an outbreak of "immigrant fever" on the ship, and Andrew died during quarantine at Kingston, Ontario. The family settled in unsurveyed land that later became Elma Township, Perth County, Ontario. in 1879 many of the family moved to western Manitoba, near where the town of Neepawa now stands. A YDNA test at FamilyTreeDNA identified us as "a typical chiefly line of Clan Buchanan", but our paper trail only goes back as far as Andrew's family. Close DNA matches exist with two Buchanan families at Drumquin, County Tyrone, but their paper trail goes back no further than ours.

Hi Bill,

I've added Andrew to the brick walls section. Since you've taken a YDNA test, I'm curious, what was your haplogroup?
